About Us
“Innovation” and “creativity” in improving product “usability” have become the buzzwords in the global handicraft markets. Those who could assess the taste and requirement of clients and develop products accordingly have achieved successes. Markets consider for unique selling point” in terms of quality, attractiveness, and originality. Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) established in 1972, felt an urgent need to set up a design center with a view to extending professional design and development services to handicraft exporters and manufacturers.

(HANDECEN) is an autonomous entity established by FHAN in collaboration with Nepal Government. HANDECEN helps to develop quality products, create innovative products and venture into product diversification for overall development of the Nepalese handicrafts. It is functional with the help of the professional groups of designers.
VISION
Stakeholders involved in the handicraft sector of Nepal shall be developed and satisfied through enhanced competitiveness.
MISSION
HANDECEN shall be developed as a capable institute and competitive venture for the promotion of the Nepalese handicraft sector through enhanced design awareness, up-graded skills and well-developed products.
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the HANDECEN is to support the overall growth and development of handicrafts by maintaining state-of-the-art design technology in Nepal. The immediate objectives are:

• To promote product design and development through research, documentation information and    publication services by encouraging involvement of professional designers and experts.
• To establish and expand knowledge based infrastructures in order to develop human resources and    products/services.
• To cultivate and develop design and creativity consciousness among the exporters and    manufacturers by providing need based training and consultancy services supported by proper and    professional research.
• To adopt new technology for innovation in contemporary crafts and upgrade prevalent technology to    develop marketable products.
• To promote, preserve and conserve traditional crafts and skills of the artisans.
• To extend supports in obtaining patent rights on designs created by the artists, exporters and    manufacturers.
• To blend traditional arts with novel products without distorting traditional values and ethos.
• To develop HANDECEN as a hub of handicraft designers.
